Martial Arts Classes for Kids & Teens

4-5 Year Olds

Game-based learning with an emphasis on fun!

We use Aikido Games and colorful toys to make it fun for kids to run around, work out, and release pent-up energy (while learning martial arts).

Children learn how to

  • roll and fall safely

  • get out of the way of strikes, punches, kicks, grabs and put-downs

  • hold their ground without getting hurt

  • quicken response times

  • manage impulses without getting frustrated

  • move with awareness in a group

  • develop basic social skills and respectful communication with others

  • follow the leader (and be a leader)

  • shift from being physically and mentally active

  • to becoming quiet inside and out

A full-on, well-paced energetic experience,

with lots of room to wiggle around—plus lots of reinforcement

for sitting as a group and quieting both body and mind

Acquiring one of Aikido’s basic martial arts foundations:

learning to use peaceful, grounded strength

We teach and show kids that being kind is stronger than being mean. Children discover how to use their body and their peaceful, grounded strength versus their aggressive and confrontational strength.

  • shift from being physically and mentally active to becoming quiet inside and out

  • train in self-defense strategies

  • sit, stand, and walk with a "leadership body" – that takes charge instead of getting pushed around by life

Leadership

For youth between the ages of 13 and 17, a more vigorous yet playful environment designed for the young at heart.

Teens sign up through the kids program and once they have taken their first test are welcome to take adult classes listed below in addition to the teen classes that are offered. Teen aikido classes are a prerequisite and require ongoing regular weekly participation in teen classes in order to qualify for training in the adult classes.

Teens can be placed into younger kids martial arts classes as teachers aids if they are interested in becoming part of the leadership program at AKT. The leadership program trains teens to become passionate, caring and involved people into the community at large by taking on teaching days, participating in outings and fundraisers as well as taking our Teachers Aids trainings and retreats.
